Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, born in Tyrol, graduated from the Law Faculty of Innsbruck
University. Following post-graduate studies at SMU (Dallas) and the Diplomatic Academy
in Vienna he joined the foreign service. After having been posted to Austria’s
UN-Mission in New York and to Tokyo he became Director General at the Ministry of
Finance. He served as Ambassador to Japan and China, before his position as
Permanent Representative to the E.U.  Amabssador Schweisgut has been recently named head of EU delegation to Japan.
