Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation

The main political focus of the VIDC is to enhance a critical public debate on issues related to colonialism and racism and to establish an international dialogue based on equality and respect.

The vidc has a long tradition in the field of development cooperation in Austria and was founded at the “Conference for Economic Cooperation and Partnership” which took place in July 1962 in Salzburg and Vienna. The organisation was founded by Bruno Kreisky alongside the former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and other prominent politicians from the so called “Third World” such as Tom Mboya from Kenya and Ahmed Ben Salah from Tunisia as a think-tank for development cooperation and development policy, making it the oldest Austrian organisation in development policy and cooperation.

A fair global world order.

The VIDC acts on the assumption of a fair global world order and accordingly supports social processes of transformation, which initiate this social change. The vidc is aware of the fact that is part of the existent conditions and is active within them.
In our eyes the equal opportunity of all individuals is an indispensible precondition for a just society, which provides access to all resources for all, makes a life in dignity possible and expels all forms of discrimination.

Equal opportunities.

This implies a perception of the world that is not geared with traditional concepts, terms and themes of action, but which supports equal rights and emancipatory processes.
Instead of militarily or politically arranged logics the VIDC places emphasis on concepts and principles of peace conserving or initiating philosophies and politics.

In February 2008, the research platform Human Rights in the European Context was established at the University of Vienna. It assembles academics of 12 departments of the University of Vienna with the purpose of strengthening the inter-disciplinary research on the topic of Human Rights in Europe.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights serves as the platform’s centre of communication and coordination.

Objectives:

The interdisciplinary Research Platform Human Rights in the European Context aims at generating knowledge beyond the framework of individual disciplines and faces new research questions with interdisciplinary, in particular trans-disciplinary methods, specifically by making use of the
“Human Rights Based Approach“. Thus, it is intended to function as a human rights think-tank.

The platform will carry out inter-disciplinary and policy oriented background studies and research projects on various topics related to European human rights policies which shall inform and feed into current debates.

Besides the core group, the Platform has the function of a hub for a network of researchers from all involved academic disciplines. These additional researchers are included in the elaboration and implementation of projects emerging from the Platform’s activities – according to their individual expertise. Eventually, the joint resources of the Platform are resulting in the “Networking of Networks” which on the one hand ensures a broad coverage of sources, and on the other hand guarantees the wide-spread dissemination of the working results into the discourses of the participating academic disciplines.

A particular focus is being put on a synergetic linkage of project implementation and output in terms of dissertations and postdoctoral research work. Thus, the Platform provides younger researchers with an opportunity to carry out inter-disciplinary research projects under the joint supervision of senior researchers from all relevant disciplines.

For decades, the name ecoplus has been synonymous with innovative business and regional development policies. Activities have been focused on developing the business location of Lower Austria – and on supporting companies based in Lower Austria. In order to provide its clients and partners with optimal support, ecoplus bundles its operations into the following three divisions, a reflection of the sheer variety of tasks, the breadth of engagement, and the development dynamic characterizing ecoplus:
