The city has a more strategic role today. Mrs Sassen (Columbia University) uses the conceptual plattform of territory, authority and rights as a perspective on the role of global cities. Overall the lecture provides images of novel developments and all the non urban processes that feed into a new type of strategic geopolitic role of global cities.

In particular they discuss the relevance of the transatlantic relationship under the new Obama Administration and how to jointly address global issues.
